Right now, all the chips used in USB flash drives in China are imported Due to technical issues.
Fake USB drives have rough workmanship, unstable quality, and they're super cheap—like, you might see a defect rate as high as 50%. That means half of them could break down after just a few months. The software inside these fake sticks can be pretty unstable too since it can run on its own and has adjustable settings. This is also why there's such a big price gap.
Our company does not accept orders for USB drives that meet this requirement.
So how do you check what kind of chip you've got? We typically use ChipGenius check it.
ChipGenius automatically detects your plugged-in USB drive and shows all sorts of info about it on the screen—like supplier, product manufacturer, chip manufacturer, etc. If you see that the chip manufacturer is legit and everything looks good with the info provided, then chances are your USB drive is genuine. Check out this image:
If something seems off with that information, then you've probably got a fake chip. Some shady sellers might try to mess around with chip models or manufacturers using software tricks; however, ChipGenius will still flag any issues with that data so customers need to double-check carefully.
There's also another possibility where an unknown chip pops up—it could mean either the software isn't updated or you've got yourself a fake one.
Generally speaking,USB drives made from fake chips aren' reliable at all—they often lead to data loss—even though they come at rock-bottom prices!
